"These three kids get up, they start performing, and I’m like, 'Damn! They’ve got it all: Stage presence, musicianship, vocals..."
– Kevin Dunwoody, Vermont World Music Festival
"Ten strings And A Goat Skin are merely the instruments. It is the talent and charm of these three lads that brings them alive... A magic I never wanted to end."
– Val Haller, Valslist, Chicago
"Since words can’t really explain how good they sound, you’ll have to listen for yourself. Get a copy, turn it up, and these boys will do the rest! "
– Penguin Eggs, review of Auprès du Poêle
Ten Strings And A Goat Skin is a trio from Prince Edward Island (PEI) in the Canadian Maritimes, and consists of brothers Rowan and Caleb Gallant on fiddle/vocals and percussion/ backing vocals respectively as well as Jesse Périard (guitar/vocals).
With a firm hold of the Scottish and Acadian roots of PEI's traditional music Ten Strings And A Goat Skin weave together old-school French-Canadian, Breton, Irish and Scottish tunes with catchy, current grooves, flirting with the best elements of indie. They mix highly energetic instrumentals and moody songs in English and French into a cocktail that captures audiences across age boundaries.
The trio tour extensively in both North America and Europe and featured at Tønder Festival 2015, where their performances earned them a recall for 2016.
The band's first album, Corbeau, was released in 2013, and among the tracks on the album was a track with the Scandinavian-sounding title Huginn & Muninn. The follow-up, Auprès du Poêle (translates as "Around the Wood Stove"), was released in June 2016 and was produced by none less than Leonard Podolak (The Duhks), who also features on some of the tracks. Note: Leonard Podolak will tour Denmark with Ray Cooper in March 2018.
